9 ways to use Lemon Essential Oil in your home

Air freshener:  Use 12 drops of Lemon oil in a squirt bottle with distilled water to use in the bathroom as an air freshener.

Dishwasher: Add 2 drops of Lemon oil to your dishwasher before the wash cycle. Your dishes will shine and your dishwasher will smell great. Use it with a green/eco-friendly dishwasher solution for best results.

House Carpet cleaner:  Put 10-15 drops of Lemon oil in each gallon of carpet cleaning solution to help pull out stains and brighten the rug. This also leaves a fresh smell in the room.

Clean fruit: To clean and increase the shelf life of fresh fruit, fill a bowl with cool water and 2-3 drops of Lemon oil . Drop your cleaned fruit into the water and stir. Be sure all surfaces of the fruit contact the lemon water.

Kitchen cleaner: Rub a drop of Lemon oil to clean a butcher’s Boos Block or other cutting surface. A safe alternative to harsh chemicals.

Kitchen Sterilizer: Add 5-6 drops of Lemon oil to water and spray counter tops to sterilize them. Your kitchen will smell amazing and you don’t have to worry about chemicals getting into your food.

Kill germs: Soak your dishcloth overnight in a bowl of water and 4 drop of Lemon oil to disinfect and kill germs.

House Sanitizer: Use a paper towel soaked with several drops of Lemon oil to sanitize bathroom fixtures. No chemicals or toxic fumes.

Stain remover: Use 1-2 drops of Lemon oil to remove gum, oil, grease spots, labels or crayon.

Make sure you only use Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, store bought oils contain fillers and perfumes and do not have the same properties as 100% pure essential oils.  I would recommend using Young Living Lemon Essential Oil.

Spring Essentials for strong immune system and less allergies

The sun is out, flowers are blooming, life is coming back in full force. For some though this means allergy and bug bite season is starting. Spring is meant to be spent outside enjoying the colors and natures re-birth.
To help you enjoy spring and summer I have made a list of some of my personal Spring Essentials. I hope this will come in handy.

Allergy relief:

My favorite oil/blend to help calm allergies is RC:

This blend is composed of 3 types of eucalyptus, lavender, marjoram, peppermint and is perfect to soothe the respiratory system and provide sinus relief. I recommend putting one drop in the palm of your hand and cupping your nose and mouth and inhaling deeply a few times a day or when needed. You will feel a difference right away.

Bug bites:

Prevention: For those evening bbq parties I would recommend putting a few drops of any of the following on your wrists, ankles, behind your knees, elbows and neck:

Lemongrass: On top of aiding the circulatory system and being a strong antioxidant, Lemongrass is also a great mosquito and bug repellent.

Lemon and Peppermint would also be a great combination. A word to the wise, Peppermint is very strong so less is more. Avoid using Lemongrass or Lemon if you are going in the sun as these can stain your skin.

Bug bite relief:

For those itchy bug bites I recommend using Lavender alone or Lavender and Peppermint together. Another great solution for bug bites is Purification.
On a side note, Lavender essential oil is a powerful antibacterial and can be applied directly to cuts and scrapes to help disinfect and heal the cut.

Read testimonials on bug bites from everyday oil users here.

I also recommend adding NingXia Red to your daily regimen, it now comes in individual packs that are easy to take with you and have on the go whenever you need it.  NingXia red is a natural infusion of Whole Ningxia wolfberry puree, Blueberry juice, Pomegranate juice, Apricot juice, Raspberry juice, Organic blue agave nectar, Grape seed, skin, and stem, Lemon rind, Orange rind.  Needless to say it is one of the highest antioxidant and natural energy boosting drinks on the market today. It’s pure health and life in a bottle!

Essential oils & Alzheimer’s

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy for Alzheimer’s Patients

Flanagan, Nina. The Clinical Use of Aromatherapy in Alzheimer’s Patients. Alternative & Complementary Therapies. November/December 1995:377-380.
Megan Carnarius, R.N., is pioneering the use of aromatherapy, the therapeutic use of plant-derived essential oils, with Alzheimer’s patients. Known in Europe to be an effective mood enhancer and stress-relieving therapy, aromatherapy is becoming more well-known here in the United States, although its clinical use is limited. In Alzheimer’s patients, it can increase quality of life by reducing the anxiety that often accompanies the disease; its therapeutic use, however, is of special interest because of the connection between the evocative sense of smell and memory.

The aromatherapy program that Carnarius has developed for her patients in the Alzheimer’s unit at Manor Care in Boulder, CO, involves the use of diffusers, spritzers, facials, and massage with essential oils. Lemon oil, which helps patients wake up and focus their energies, is used in the morning in the diffusers and put on washcloths for facials; chamomile used to calm patients down in the afternoon or when they become agitated. The scents also work partly because they change the environment of the nursing home, breaking the stagnation and stimulating the patients to feel and remember.

Carnarius has developed an aromatherapy kit for use with Alzheimer’s patients which consists of five essential oils: geranium, lavender, marjoram, rosemary, and ylang ylang. She has trained Alzheimer’s unit staff at 13 centers, and there are over 450 patients using aromatherapy. Measuring results is difficult, but Carnarius says, “Since our programming is very structured, I know that with the oils, people stay in activities longer-they are stimulated more in general.”

About SAGE oil:

“11-03:  New research has proved that sage can improve memory, confirming centuries-old theories. British scientists have carried out the first clinical trials with healthy, young adults and found that those who had taken sage oil capsules performed significantly better in a word recall test.”
